Archetypal analysis of students' behavior in banking sector
Malíčková, Jana ; Červinka, Michal (advisor) ; Cingl, Lubomír (referee)
Archetypal analysis is statistical method used in market segmentation, however, it has minor results of application in economics. This method finds out typical behavior - archetypes. Every sample point consists of one or more archetypes and every archetype consists of few sample points. In this thesis, we explore behavior of college students at Czech universities in banking sector as there is no evidence of this research. In the model with four archetypes, the archetypes named the Pauper, the Buffett, the Elvis and the Sleeping Beauty arose.
The roles of women and men in selected old norse sagas
Fiedlerová, Andrea ; Jiroutová Kynčlová, Tereza (advisor) ; Knotková - Čapková, Blanka (referee)
The roles of women and men in selected Old Norse sagas diploma thesis focuses on literary analysis of two Old Norse sagas - the Volsunga Saga and the Laxdœla saga - from the perspective of gender theory. Each of the sagas belongs to a different genre, The Volsunga is a so-called fornaldarsögur, while The Laxdœla saga would be considered a Íslendingasögur. The theoretical part of the thesis draws from the methods of feminist literary critique of the 1970s and 1980s, namely theory of resistant reading which helps readers avoid adopting the author's own perception of their work, and feminist archetypal analysis. The second part of the thesis - the analysis itself - is divided into three topics: agency, vengefulness, and genealogy; they are common for both sagas and allow for deeper exploration of the texts. It is on the basis on these topics that the thesis answers originally posited hypotheses regarding behaviours and behavioural patterns, activities, and meanings associated with female and male characters. Key words: Archetypal analysis, resistant reading, Old Norse, saga
Capturing femininity in the selection of Atwood's novels
Maříková, Šárka ; Knotková - Čapková, Blanka (advisor) ; Jiroutová Kynčlová, Tereza (referee)
In my diploma thesis I deal with gender and archetypal analysis of the novella Penelopiad by Canadian author Margaret Atwood. Firstly, I will introduce the chosen methodology and outline the theoretical anchoring. In the theoretical part, I am going to focus on women's writing and reading, as well as resistant reading and feminist critique of archetypes. In the analytical part I deal with application of these theories on individual characters of the Penelopiad. I follow individual female characters and I pay attention to male characters only marginally and especially in relation to women. I focus on the relationships and ties that Atwood works with and on the men's influence on women and women among themselves. I watch the stratification of power and how it is affected, for example, by the beauty myth or the struggle for dominant masculinity. Keywords: The Penelopiad, archetypes, archetypal analysis, power, resistant reader, trickster, victimization
Analysis of Gender Archetypes in the Book Women Who Run With the Wolves
Karasová, Teresa ; Knotková - Čapková, Blanka (advisor) ; Jiroutová Kynčlová, Tereza (referee)
In this thesis, I focus on the gender analysis of a book called Women Who Run with the Wolves by Clarissa Pincola Estes. In my opinion, this book can be used both as study material and in one's personal life since it's a interpretative essayist which is in between a scientific text and fiction. In my thesis, I expand theories of Annis Pratt, Pam Morris, and Judith Fetterley. Since Estes puts a lot of focus onto the importance of archetypes I interpret them in the theoretical part and afterward, I put my full focus onto them in the analytical part of the thesis. Estes is strongly influenced by the analytical psychology of Carl Gustav Jung, because of this I focus on the subject, about which Jung's classical texts are about and which concepts can be taken subversive. At the same time, I am trying to point out in what sense was the Estés approach similar or vice versa is different from the other authors dealing with the archetypal issue. While working on the other topics mentioned above I am working on identifying other concepts, mainly feminist based theories, which influenced the discourse of the text. The main goal of this thesis is not a literary analysis of every single story, but a critical evaluation of how the author interprets the stories and what is the meaning of each archetype. While...
Archetypal Analysis as a Segmentation Tool
Rezková, Karolína ; Dvořák, Marek (advisor) ; Antoch, Jaromír (referee)
The thesis presents method called archetypal analysis, which belongs to the field of multivariate statistical data analysis. The method brings contribution to many different branches of science. It focuses in searching for the archetypes or so called "individuals of pure type" that are expressed as convex linear combinations of the original data. At the same time, the original data are represented as the convex linear combinations of the data minimizing the squared error in this representation. There is also a detailed example on processing of the real data. The thesis contains also a sugestion of ways how the original data can be divided into segments. The processed data set is attached.
